tv misery
TV Misery is a creative project by producer and multi-instrumentalist Mike Watson. Raised in the musical environment of his family’s Northern Rivers music shop, Mike’s early immersion in songs and instruments shaped the path that led to this project. TV Misery started as a home recording project while Mike was busy touring with his other band, Wharves. Over time, it has grown into a five-piece live band made up of close friends and long-term collaborators from across Mike’s 15 years in the Australian music scene. The project sits between art rock and experimental indie rock with a dash of shoegaze. Driven by a focus on tension and release, the songs lean on unstable chord movements that eventually resolve into more grounded melodic moments. The project's latest single, Villains, is a homage to the spaghetti western sounds of Ennio Morricone, Scott Walker and Lee Hazelwood. Featuring a slow gallop Tom-Tom groove, tremolo guitars and a gradual crescendo building throughout the track. Lyrically, it’s an introspection on the justification of one's actions and where the line lies, drawing influence from Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky.
