for labels

if you’re an independent label, second press gives your artists a real cut of the streaming revenue (around 5 to 9 times more per stream than the majors), with transparent reporting and direct payouts. for now, joining is invitation or application based.

how it works for labels

  • labels get a label portal alongside their artists. one account, multiple rosters.
  • you upload releases and manage artist profiles directly.
  • payouts are made to the label on the same monthly schedule as artists.
  • how you split with your artists is up to your existing agreements.
  • transparent dashboard with real-time stream counts and earnings per release.

how to apply

  1. email hello@secondpress.com.au with:
    • a link to your label (website, bandcamp, instagram, whatever’s most current)
    • a short description
    • which artists on your roster you’d be putting on the platform
  2. we’ll review and come back to you. if it’s a fit, we set up your label portal account and send you a welcome email to log in.
  3. from the portal you upload your logo, add your bank details, invite your artists, and upload releases yourself.
  4. each release upload is reviewed and live on the platform within 24-48 hours.

terms

  • non-exclusive licence. your roster can stay on other platforms.
  • you keep ownership of all masters.
  • you can pull releases down at any time.
  • monthly payouts, minimum threshold $10 AUD.

exclusives & early releases

putting exclusive content on second press is a real plus. it gives subscribers something they can’t get anywhere else, and gives your roster a reason to drive fans to the platform.

  • demos, b-sides, live sessions, alt versions, remixes, anything unreleased.
  • early releases too. drop something on second press a few weeks to a month before the wide release.
  • exclusives can be permanent or time-limited (30 days, 90 days, whatever the label and artist agree on).
  • artists keep full ownership, and exclusive streams are paid at the same per-stream rate as everything else.

rights & licensing

  • you grant second press a non-exclusive licence to stream the master recordings on your roster. you must control (own or exclusively licence) the rights to anything you upload.
  • songwriter / publishing royalties are handled separately. second press licenses the composition side directly through apra amcos, just like every other streaming service - so writer payments keep flowing through apra the normal way.
  • artists already signed to your label can’t onboard themselves directly - your label onboards them as part of your roster.
